Joseph Walsh He was running through the woods again. For speed, he released a touch of the wolf and used his night vision to guide him. He saw a figure slip through the trees alongside and knew Mina was keeping pace. The werewolf and the vampire. What a team. Sometimes when they had free time, Mina and he would watch old horror shows. Of course they were no where near close to the truth. Weres and Vamps were just a different specie of human. Of course Joe understood a lot more of it since he had met Phoenix and she had told him where they came from. Told them of the two planets in totally different galaxies where their kind had been the dominate humanoids. On earth, they were kind of an experiment, a mistake actually. The Guardians weren't sure either specie would survive, however all the thousands of years ago, it was either release them, or let them die. Guardians have a hard time killing anything, and that's what they would have been doing. So into the human population of earth, they had released thirty pairs each of Vampires and Werewolves. The truth of Werepeople is much stranger than the popular fiction. Today there's about two hundred thousand scattered around the world. Two hundred families decended from the original thirty. Not terribly prolific by earth standards, but still a good increase. The problem with weres is that they are very monognamous and life long mates. Weres and humans have had offspring and they usually pick up the best traits of each parent. However the lifespan of a were is four to six times that of a human, widowed mates never re-marry. Vampires are a whole different brand. There's over a million vamps in the world. They're much more ambitious than the weres, more sexual and more prolific. Where weres usually reproduce in twos, vamps somtimes have huge families not always from the same mates. About nine thousand years ago, one of the vamps mated with a Guardian, passed down through the generations is the Guardian gene. Mutated to its new hosts, the new gene gives vamps of that line a lifespan measured in millinia. Three of the original children still live. Mina is one of their decendents. So here we have a werewolf who was born in 1562 and a vampire of Guardian decent born in 1012. Joe couldn't have told anyone when he knew that Mina was his mate. His natural other half. He was glad now it was out in the open and neither of them had to make excuses anymore. It also gave him a sense of peace. He had hated to fall in love, hadn't wanted to. Fought it hard. In his heart he knew he would probably outlive any female he came to love. Not so with Mina, she already was five hundred years older than him. After they had worked with Vince and had some tests made, it seems that Joe also possesses the Guardian gene, though not as dominant as Mina's. It's part of the reason for their compatability.
