Mina Jackson Mina didn't notice the trees as she raced through the woods, the gullies, or the fallen logs. She only felt an urgency an important, gotta be there feeling. She smiled to herself as she passed Joe in the darkness and kept going. She could feel the vibrations in the air, vibrations which said the shifters were already on their way. Cursing the earthbound traffic that had slowed both her and Joe up, she spread her feeling to see if there were any others waiting in the darkness. There were at least a dozen lurking in the shadows, some were armed. Various different weapons. She reached out and caught the passing thought of one then laughed. Little did they know, stakes and silver bullets were just not going to get it. It's hard to kill something that moves so fast, it's only a blur. She side stepped a form that raised up from the ground and slapped the man hard enough in the groin to render him unconscious and give him a month long limp. She had to hurry. She slid over a fallen tree and kicked out with both legs, two more entered the realm of dreams. Off to her left, she heard several grunts and a moan that said Joe was doing his own version of house cleaning. Rowan had said to hurry. Of all the people in the world Mina trusted, Rowan would be in the top ten; followed by the others she affectionately called the "Weird Bunch". She and Joe made several circles around the clearing, tll they were sure all those they were hunting were disposed of. Then returning to the edge, they stood across from each other, six bodies in between as they waited for the shifters to return. "It's going to be a long night." Joe commented as he looked around the circle. "It's getting cold." Mina commented."Snow?" Joe walked over to the shelter and returned with an arm load of woolen blankets. Handing half of them to Mina, they walked around and draped the covers over the shoulders of the six who slumbered. "Think they'll be gone all night?" he asked. "It sounded to me like Rowan thought so." "Ya know I'm not sure if I'm relieved I can't go, or jealous." Mina leaned against a tree and stared at Joe. "You've always got me." she smiled. "Honey, where you sometimes tread, I'm not sure I don't feel the same way."he laughed. Mina and Joe's relationship had been the talk of all their friends for years. Working together for over fifteen years before Rowan and Vincent had blown the whistle on them. Neither had known about the other. That they weren't quite human, had been obvious but vampire and werewolf never crossed either one of their minds. Seriously Mina stared at Joe. "You could have left." she stated. "No," he sighed "I couldn't. If you weren't so damned stubborn, you'd know that." Joe looked around the circle. To the casual observer, they just looked like six people meditating. The only strange one being Phoenix. As she sat, her eyes partially closed, her silver hair moved around her. Joe knew it wasn't hair like most people's but rather a type of symbiote. When Phoenix shifted into the Shadow World, her hair became a conscious, a protective entity. He would have rather faced a hundred terrorists rather than five minutes with that seething silver cloud. Standing in the firelight they each felt the darkness with their gifts and settled down for a long vigil. "PC said it going to be bad." Mina said, looking across the flames at her husband. "I know. Jason told me." "There's something I think we should discuss, Joe." "Mina darling, I love you. I understand how you feel. I'm just not sure we should start a family right now." "Come on Joe." she teased "What did you think? I was going to jump on you right here?" Contrary to most popular beliefs, Were males are the maternal half of a relationship. "The thought did cross my mind." he said looking at her across the sparks rising on the breeze. She was so beautiful. Her auburn hair was chin lenght and swirled around her face when she moved.
